With out a doubt, the east coast of Tasmania, has some of the most gorgeous scenery found anywhere in the world…. To be able to combine a holiday and our desire, photography, in the same place, especially under the expert tutelage of Chris Bray and Jess Taunton was a dream come true. (Chris featured his own story here.)

This short blog is a snippet of what we did and what we saw…

Day 1. Flew into Launceston, and travelled to a Tamar Valley winery, Rosevears for a wonderful dinner and wines.. nice start..

Day 2. Photos of the vineyard coupled with wine tasting… as you do.. then to Lillydale falls, Lavender farm and then Binalong Bay for sunset photos… just gorgeous.. Diner was an awesome Seafood platter with a fantastic selection on Tasmania’s finest seafood… yummmm.

Day 3. Early rise, to catch the sunrise over the glorious red lichen rocks of Binalong Bay, back for breaky then a helicopter flight over the Bay of fires… awesome.. lunch and travel to St Helens, for dinner and onto Beer Barrel Beach for Sunset..

Day 4. Sunrise at St Helens, breakfast, Bicheno Blowhole, then onto to Wineglass Bay, then onto Frecyinet Peninsula, for a morning flight over the Wineglass Bay area… even more awesome.. return for lunch,, marine farm tour and then onto our own catered wildlife cruise for amazing Dolphins and Seals.. dinner and then some night time shots for those that can still stand…

Day 5. Catch the Maria Island Ferry for a relaxing stroll around this idyllic island with its glorious walks and stunning vistas of limetsone cliffs and the world famous painted cliffs. Returning, reluctantly to shore, we then travelled to Hobart’s Salamanca Bay for a wonderful dinner and wrap up of the tour…

So short, so much to see, so much to photograph. My short words are unable to express the beauty of this region. So hopefully some of the shots below may be able to convey what we experienced.

I had the pleasure of being able to extend my stay by a further three days, which I must admit was a little bit more relaxed.

Day 6. Explore Hobart, hire car and travelled to Port Arthur for a most enjoyable visit, returning via the Tasmanian Devil conservation park, to Eaglehawk Neck and the Tessellated pavements. Sunset was ordinary over the rock formations, but the sunrise was spectacular..

Day 7. Sunrise over the Tessellated pavements, breakfast and onto Mt Field National Park. The bush walks amongst the giant trees, coupled with the almost rainforest glens and waterfalls make this a must for photographers.. I was enthralled by this park. After a lovely stroll I returned to Hobart for a well earned rest… and dinner with some friends of mine that I hadn’t seen since Uni days..

Day 8. Leisurely day. A quite drive to Mt Wellington, where to my horror, the chill winds blew straight threw me.., so unfortunately I couldn’t take many photos of the unique alpine environment that was on display.. I had to return to warm Hobart.. whew..

We only discovered a small portion of what Tasmania has to offer, barely scratched the surface really,so this is definitely a holiday destination that I will return to.

PS. I was a paying customer of Chris Bray’s Tasmanian East coast Experience Tour. The photos I have uploaded were taken by myself. I would not have been able to take these photos before this trip, for not only was Chris and Jess showing us wonderful places, but they were showing us HOW to take photos as well. Let me know if you think they succeeded. I certainly think I learnt a tremendous amount and my skills have blossomed.

Hi … great photos, great write-up. I’ve been to Tassie a couple of times and know how beautiful it is, particularly the east coast. I am trying to develop my photography skills and am doing one of Chris’s day courses in Perth next month, which I’m really excited about. I’m sure I’ll learn heaps!
