My sister and her husband retired to Somerset in the late 90′s. I had been to Tasmania on three occasions prior to this. The first with a school excursion from Victoria in the 50′s, when we travelled by ferry and bus, visiting Hobart and Port Arthur. The second in the 70′s with a group of fellow teachers. We walked the overland track Cradle mountain to Lake St Clair. The third was in 2006 for my nephew’s wedding in Burnie.
The latest Tasmania experience was earlier this year in February. We had been considering moving to Tasmania retire and decided to visit my sister and look at some properties. We had to leave our German shepherd dog in a kennel on the Gold coast where we live. We flew from Brisbane to Launceston and hired a car. Relatives live at Launceston, we made use of this so we could look around and so we visited the Scottsdale area and down to Bridport, looped up to Beaconsfield and back before heading west to stay with my sister at Somerset. While using this base we followed the Bass highway as far as Stanley, and the Murchison highway down to Strahan and back.
Photos are of some great places we stopped at beginning with Entally house a heritage estate and wonderful garden. The waterfall is on the Guide river, Guide falls. Highfield historic site at North point near Stanley and a view of the coast from Circular Head. Finally My sister and husband at beautiful Boat Harbour Beach.
