Where does one start with really delightful experiences at the turn of every corner in this most amazing island. I guess I shall start at our very first stay which began in Launceston. We arrived in October 2009, the air was chilly, hands-in-pockets-weather so to speak, but so clean and pure I felt my lungs fill and [...]

It is with great fondness that we often reflect upon a most memorable road trip, spent in Tasmania in late Summer and early Autumn. I could speak of the glorious colours that herald the approaching of Winter. Or I could dazzle you with the sumptuous delights we experienced as we unashamedly ate our way around [...]

We are Tasmanian “born and bred”, but left ten years ago for a work promotion in the tropics. After three years of going troppo we loaded the car (2 adults, 2 kids and Gromit the Dog) for a holiday road trip and a quintessential Tasmanian experience. We’d previously bushwalked, Cradle Laked, Port Arthured, Salamanca Placed, [...]

I went to Tasmania in September 2009. They had the worst storms in 50 years, major flooding and high winds. This all really added to the adventure. I drove 1,700km around the island and pretty much experienced some of the best countryside. One minute you thought you were in Bonnie Scotland and round the next [...]

Enjoying the beauty of the Tasmanian wilderness, we were ‘free camping’, near Recherche Bay.  Our campsite is called Gilhams Beach, but I prefer to call it the Enchanted Forest.  We had perfect weather- bright sunny days, not too hot.  Each morning as I awoke, I was greeted by twittering birds, and a view of bright green ferns.  [...]

A few years ago we toured Tasmania with visiting American relatives. They were blown away, and we glowed with pride, as well as rediscovering Tasmania for ourselves. We drove ourselves and stayed at wonderful cottages we’d pre-booked (all with breath-taking views and visiting wildlife), wined and dined at beautiful restaurants in even more gorgeous locations [...]

Freycinet – an evocative name. One of the many French names scattered along the coasts of Tasmania, Western and South Australia. Freycinet was an officer on one of the explorer Nicolas Baudin’s two ships – Le Géographe and Le Naturaliste, which spent some time on the Freycinet Peninsula exploring and interacting with the indigenous population. [...]

We visited The East Coast last October 2009. I fell in love with Tasmania and am still trying to return if not to live, then for another wonderful Holiday. The air was so clean, people so friendly and the country a painter’s dream. We stayed in Launceston for three nights and visited surrounding area, on [...]

Tasmania is the best place I know to satisfy my passion for fresh, natural flavours. I first visited the State in 1990 to source wonderful ocean trout for my Sydney restaurant, Tetsuya’s. I knew then that I had found a food-lover’s paradise. Regular business visits since have shown me many other aspects of Tasmania. There [...]

At the age of twenty-four, I can honestly say that I have experienced “God’s own acre”: Tasmania – one of the most exquisite, unspoilt and wild places on the planet. There is so much it has to offer and the 5 days that my husband and I had to explore, couldn’t have in anyway done it justice. [...]
