We spent a fantastic day with Rob Pennicott’s Bruny Island Cruises. What a fabulous adventure, featuring amazing rock formations, dramatic coastline, rare seabirds and hilarious fur seals! All wrapped up in a really well run tour – great food too !

When I visualised my first day of Targa Tasmania [2010], the overriding image was one of blue skies and dry roads. Reality was a storm to rival anything we get back in Auckland. Horizontal rain and standing water claimed their first victim less than 500 metres into the Rally; a gorgeous Alpine A110 falling down [...]

I can thoroughly recommend Rob Pennicott’s Eco tour from Adventure Bay on Bruny Island – south.  If you don’t want to drive to Adventure Bay you can park your car at Kettering from where the twenty minute ferry to Bruny  leaves  and be driven on their bus to A.Bay [Adventure Bay]. Their web site is [...]

As a little girl we used to camp as a family at Lime Bay, and survey all that was left of the Coal Mines Historic Site at Saltwater River. It’s taken almost 3 decades to finally return and realise why it was such a focal point for our family to camp at. I  drove down for [...]

In April (2010) I visited a place I never thought I’d ever set foot on, Tasman Island. Due to its remoteness and the wild weather, Tasman Island, located at the tip of Cape Pillar, is circled by boats, seabirds and seals but unmanned. It is built from sandstone, dates from 1823 ~ 1825, and was constructed with convict labour. When I arrived at the bridge I heard a quack quack, [...]

I  have stayed in pubs all over Tassie. I think old-style pubs are Tasmania’s best kept secret. Yes, national treasures they are. From Penguin to Cygnet, Scottsdale to Waratah local pubs offer the more exploratory traveller the chance to meet and mingle with locals. And there’s nothing quite like a pub meal. Take the National [...]

Suicide Falls pours out of Wayatinah Lagoon into the incredible Derwent River. Looks like something you’d see in Iceland, not Tassie! Be sure to check it out – it’s just past the Liapootah Power Station. And if you’re a paddler, there’s a good hour of big bouncy class 3 to follow. Gold. Editor’s note: Liapootah [...]

Since the Australian embassy refused my visa application at first time, I was not very excited to go there. This kind of mood remained when I was in Melbourne. But Tasmania changed my mood. I really like this island. Even now, I prefer Tasmania more than any other regions in Australia. The most impressed thing [...]
